A new play area is in the process of being built behind Micklefield Community Centre, replacing the old play area previously sited in Forest Way. Local residents have already had trouble with people hanging around the construction site and one resident had their greenhouse destroyed by rubble at the site being thrown. The site has now been made more secure.
Residents are concerned that the play areas secluded location will lead to anti-social behaviour, a concern raised by Micklefield Neighbourhood Action Group when work was still at the planning stage. The play are also appears to restrict access along the side of the woods, an alternative route for pedestrians walking up Micklefield Road. Residents have also been informed that the play area will not be fenced off and new footpaths are not being provided, meaning that access will be difficult for parents with buggies or those with mobility problems.
